A Charming Island in Bhimtal Lake Accessible by Boat, Home to a Freshwater Fish Aquarium
Aquarium Island is a small, picturesque island situated in the middle of Bhimtal lake, accessible only by rowing boat from the main ghat. The island houses a freshwater fish aquarium run by the Fisheries Department of Uttarakhand, which displays a variety of fish species found in the Himalayan lakes and rivers, including mahseer, trout and other local species.
The boat ride to the island and back is a delightful experience, especially in calm morning or evening hours when the lake is still and reflective. The aquarium is a particularly popular attraction for children and families. The island setting itself is charming — surrounded by the lake with forested hills in the background. Combined with boating on the lake, a visit to Aquarium Island is the highlight of most Bhimtal day trips.
