Bhim Pakora Lansdowne – Famous Balancing Rock & Pandava Legend Site

A Geological Marvel – Two Boulders Balanced Against Each Other, Unmovable by Hands But Movable by a Single Finger

About Bhim Pakora Lansdowne

Bhim Pakora is one of the most fascinating natural wonders in Lansdowne, located within the Garhwal Rifles cantonment area. It consists of two large boulders balanced against each other in a seemingly impossible manner — the upper stone rests on the lower one at a precarious angle, defying gravity. The name is derived from the Pandava warrior Bhima, and local legend says that Bhima placed these rocks here during the Pandavas' exile in the Himalayas. According to local belief, the rocks cannot be moved when pushed by many people together, but a single finger can make them wobble — a phenomenon that continues to mystify visitors.

The Bhim Pakora site is set amidst the beautiful oak and rhododendron forests of Lansdowne, making the short walk to it as enjoyable as the attraction itself. The surrounding area is peaceful and green, typical of Lansdowne's pristine cantonment environment. The mystery of these balancing rocks has drawn curious travelers for generations and remains one of Lansdowne's must-see sights. Entry into the cantonment is regulated; carry a valid ID. Photography is permitted at the Bhim Pakora site.
