About Harsil Valley

Harsil Valley is a picturesque valley of extraordinary beauty situated at 2620 metres on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, about 72 km from Uttarkashi. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense deodar forests and beautiful apple orchards, Harsil is often called the "Paradise Valley" of Uttarakhand. The valley gained fame when Bollywood film Ram Teri Ganga Maili was shot here in 1985.

Harsil is one of the last major motorable settlements on the Uttarkashi–Gangotri road and is a restricted area requiring Inner Line Permits for overnight stays (Indians don't need a permit). Key attractions include the Wilson's apple orchards, the ancient Mukhba village (where the deity of Gangotri spends winter), the scenic Bhagirathi River views and the cascading Satyanarayan Temple. It is a preferred halt for Gangotri pilgrims.
