A Pristine Alpine Lake at 2438 Metres Famous for Mirror Reflections of Chaukhamba Peaks
Deoria Tal (also known as Devaria Tal) is a stunning lake at 2438 metres, reached by a 3 km trek from Sari village (near Ukhimath). The lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters that perfectly reflect the magnificent Chaukhamba massif (7138m) on a calm morning — one of the most iconic reflections in the Indian Himalayas. The surrounding forest of rhododendron and oak adds to the enchanting atmosphere.
Deoria Tal is best visited at dawn for the famous reflection photograph. The trek from Sari is through dense forest and takes about 1.5–2 hours. Camping is allowed near the lake. The lake is also well-known for bird watching — numerous Himalayan bird species can be spotted here. The area is on the route from Ukhimath to Chopta, making it an easy add-on for Tungnath/Chandrashila trekkers.
April to June for clear reflections and pleasant trek. September to November for autumn colours. Winter (Dec–Feb) for snow but road may be blocked.
