A Pristine 40-Acre Lake with 9 Corners, 10 km from Sattal
Naukuchiatal (meaning "Lake of Nine Corners") is one of the most beautiful and least-crowded lakes in the Kumaon Himalayas, located about 10 km from Sattal and 26 km from Nainital at an altitude of 1220 metres. The lake gets its name from its distinctive nine-cornered shape — visible from the surrounding hilltops.
The lake is about 40 acres in area and is deeper than Nainital lake. It is a popular spot for boating, fishing, paragliding (launched from the surrounding hills) and peaceful nature walks. The forested banks are home to kingfishers, herons and other waterbirds. Unlike the more touristy Nainital lake, Naukuchiatal retains a serene, unspoiled character.
Beautiful year-round. October to June is ideal for boating and walks. October–November for crystal-clear reflections and cool weather. Avoid monsoon for water activities.
