Sacred Temple of Goddess Uma (Parvati) at the Holy Alaknanda-Pindar Confluence in Karnaprayag
Uma Devi Temple is an ancient and revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Uma (Parvati) — the consort of Lord Shiva — located at the sacred Karnaprayag sangam where the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers meet in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple is one of the most important goddess shrines in the Chamoli-Garhwal region and is closely associated with the holy Panch Prayag site. Uma Devi is believed to be the presiding deity of Karnaprayag, and her blessings are sought by pilgrims visiting the sangam ghat before taking a holy dip in the sacred waters.
The temple structure is built in traditional Garhwali style with a stone façade and sloping roof typical of Himalayan temple architecture. Inside, the sanctum houses a beautifully adorned idol of Goddess Uma. The temple is particularly active during Navratri and other auspicious occasions when large numbers of devotees gather for special pujas and aartis. The setting of the temple beside the river confluence, with the sounds of two sacred rivers merging below, creates a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Uma Devi Temple is best visited in the early morning when the ghat puja is performed and the air is filled with incense and chanting.
Year-round. Navratri (March/April and October) for main festival. May to June and September to November for pleasant pilgrimage weather. Early morning visits (6–8 AM) are most spiritually enriching when the ghat puja is active.
