Tour Operators in Maharashtra — Land of Varkaris, Maratha Forts & UNESCO Caves

As India's second most populous state and its economic powerhouse, Maharashtra offers a travel experience of extraordinary scale and diversity. As trusted tour operators in Maharashtra, Tour Venture India designs comprehensive Maharashtra tour packages that cover the full sweep of this magnificent state — from the UNESCO World Heritage rock-cut Ajanta and Ellora Caves near Aurangabad to the devotion-drenched lanes of Shirdi, from the roar of tigers in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve to the misty strawberry farms of Mahabaleshwar, and from the cosmopolitan energy of Mumbai to the serene Western Ghats trails of the Sahyadri mountains.

The Ajanta Caves (29 rock-cut Buddhist monasteries and prayer halls, 2nd century BCE to 6th century CE) contain the world's finest ancient murals — vivid paintings of the life of Buddha and Jataka tales executed with a mastery that continues to astonish art historians. Just 30 km away, the Ellora Caves (34 caves spanning Buddhist, Hindu and Jain traditions, 6th–11th century CE) are dominated by the awe-inspiring Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) — a monolithic structure carved top-down from a single basalt cliff, the largest rock-cut structure on Earth. Both sites are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the centrepiece of any Maharashtra tour.

Shirdi, home of the revered Saint Sai Baba of Shirdi, welcomes 25,000 to 100,000 devotees daily — making it one of India's most visited pilgrimage sites. The Samadhi Mandir (where Sai Baba's mortal remains rest), the Dwarkamai Mosque, Chavadi and Lendi Baug collectively form a sacred complex managed by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust. For wildlife lovers, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur district is Maharashtra's premier jungle destination — renowned for high tiger density, excellent sighting rates and diverse wildlife including leopard, wild dog, sloth bear and gaur.

Mumbai — India's financial capital and Maximum City — is a world-class destination in itself: the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Elephanta Caves (UNESCO), the colonial Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (UNESCO), Juhu Beach, Bandra-Worli Sea Link and vibrant street food culture. The Western Ghats offer Lonavala-Khandala's monsoon waterfalls, Mahabaleshwar's strawberry farms and colonial charm, and Nashik's Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga and flourishing wine country. Our Maharashtra packages expertly stitch together these diverse experiences into seamless, memorable journeys for every type of traveller.

Why Visit Maharashtra?

Ajanta & Ellora Caves

Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites near Aurangabad — exquisite Buddhist murals (Ajanta) and the monolithic Kailasa Temple (Ellora).

Shirdi Sai Baba

India's most visited pilgrimage — Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir draws 25,000–1,00,000 devotees of all faiths daily at Shirdi.

Tadoba Tiger Reserve

Maharashtra's finest wildlife park — high tiger density, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, gaur and 195+ bird species at Chandrapur.

Mumbai — Maximum City

Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Elephanta Caves (UNESCO), CSMT (UNESCO), Bollywood studios and world-class street food.

Mahabaleshwar

Western Ghats hill station — strawberry farms, Venna Lake, Arthur's Seat viewpoint, Pratapgad Fort and lush Sahyadri valleys.

Maratha Forts

350+ Maratha forts — Raigad (Shivaji's capital), Sinhagad, Pratapgad, Sindhudurg and Daulatabad across the Sahyadri mountains.

Nashik Wine Country

India's wine capital — Sula Vineyards, Soma Vine Village and York Winery tours, plus Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga and Panchvati.

Konkan Coast

720 km of pristine coastline — Ganpatipule, Alibaug, Tarkarli, Sindhudurg fort and cashew-mango orchards along the Arabian Sea.

Best Time to Visit Maharashtra

Oct–Feb: Peak Season

Best time for Maharashtra — cool, pleasant weather (15–28°C) across the state. Ideal for Ajanta Ellora caves, Shirdi darshan, Tadoba tiger safari and Mumbai city sightseeing. Ganesh Chaturthi (August–September) and Diwali (October–November) bring spectacular cultural celebrations. The Maharashtra Festival of Dance and Music season peaks in winter.

Jun–Sep: Monsoon Season

Monsoon transforms the Western Ghats into a lush green paradise — Lonavala-Khandala waterfalls are spectacular, Mahabaleshwar misty valleys are romantic and the Konkan coast is verdant. Bhimashankar and Dudhsagar are best in monsoon. Tadoba safari is closed during peak monsoon (July–September). Ganesh Chaturthi (August–September) is a must-experience festival.

Mar–May: Summer Season

Inland Maharashtra gets hot (35–42°C) in summer. Mahabaleshwar (pleasant at 20–28°C) and Matheran hill station are popular summer escapes. Nashik grape and mango harvest season (March–May) is excellent for agro-tourism and winery tours. Strawberry season at Mahabaleshwar peaks in February–March — best for fresh picking.

Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) operates one of India's largest bus networks — Shivneri, Asiad and Volvo AC buses connect Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur and all tourist spots. Private luxury buses also serve inter-city routes from Mumbai and Pune.
