Explore the Largest Lake in Kumaon with its Famous Island Aquarium
Bhimtal is a scenic hill town and the largest lake in the Kumaon region, situated 8 km from Sattal at an altitude of 1370 metres. The Bhimtal Lake is a 47-acre emerald-green freshwater lake famous for its Island Aquarium — a unique aquarium located on an island in the middle of the lake, accessible only by rowboat.
Bhimtal is quieter and less commercialised than Nainital, making it perfect for those seeking a peaceful lakeside retreat. Boating, kayaking and fishing are popular activities. The Victoria Dam at the lake's edge and the ancient Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple on the banks add a historic and spiritual dimension to the town.
October to June is the best period. October–November for clear skies and calm lake. April–June for pleasant weather. Monsoon makes the lake lush but boating may be restricted.
