Ram Tal Garden Chakrata — Overview
Ram Tal Garden is a natural lake and garden complex located 5 km from Chakrata town at an altitude of 2,200 m (7,218 ft) in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand. "Ram Tal" translates to "Ram's Lake" — a small, calm natural lake surrounded by manicured lawns, flower beds, and tall deodar and oak trees. It is one of the most popular family picnic spots near Chakrata, maintained by the Uttarakhand Horticulture Department.
On clear days, the still surface of Ram Tal reflects the surrounding forest canopy and, in winter and spring, the snow-covered Himalayan peaks — making it an exceptional photography spot. Paddle boating is available on the lake during peak season (spring and summer), adding a leisurely activity for families with children. The garden has walking paths, benches, and seasonal blooms — rhododendrons in spring, wildflowers through summer.
Unlike the more rugged attractions around Chakrata (Tiger Falls trek, Deoban forest), Ram Tal Garden is accessible and relaxed — a flat garden you can stroll through in comfortable shoes. It works well as a morning stop or an afternoon wind-down after a day of sightseeing. A small entry fee is charged.
