A Spectacular 126m High Waterfall Surrounded by Dense Pine Forest, Pithoragarh District
Birthi Falls is a stunning 126-metre high waterfall located in Birthi village, about 35 km before Munsiyari on the Pithoragarh–Munsiyari highway (NH-9A). The waterfall is formed by a mountain stream plunging dramatically down a rocky cliff into a forested gorge below. The falls are surrounded by dense pine, oak and rhododendron forests, creating a breathtaking natural setting.
Birthi Falls is easily accessible from the main road — a short walk of about 15 minutes down a trail from the road leads to the base of the falls. The area has a small KMVN rest house nearby. The falls are most spectacular during and just after the monsoon season when the volume of water is at its peak. The surrounding forest is excellent for bird watching — a wide variety of Himalayan bird species can be spotted here.
July to October for maximum water flow and lush greenery. April to June for pleasant weather. October–November for clear mountain views alongside the falls.
