Majestic Five-Peaked Himalayan Massif Reaching 6904m, Best Viewed from Munsiyari
Panchachuli Peaks is a massif of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, with the highest peak, Panchachuli II, reaching 6904 metres. The name "Panchachuli" means "five hearths" and refers to a legend that the Pandavas cooked their last meal here before ascending to heaven. The five peaks are Panchachuli I (6355m), Panchachuli II (6904m), Panchachuli III (6312m), Panchachuli IV (6334m) and Panchachuli V (6437m).
Munsiyari is the most popular base for viewing and trekking toward the Panchachuli peaks. The sunrise view of Panchachuli from Munsiyari is considered one of the most spectacular Himalayan vistas in India — the golden light turning the five snow peaks amber at dawn is an unforgettable sight. The Panchachuli Base Camp Trek (via Madkot) and the Darma Valley Trek both approach these peaks and are popular among adventure trekkers.
