Natural Caves · Musical Fountain · Swing Garden · Family Attraction
Eco Cave Gardens Nainital is a unique nature-based family attraction located at Sukhatal, 1.5 km from Mall Road, at an altitude of 2,084 m (6,837 ft). The garden complex features 6 interconnected natural limestone caves named after animals — Tiger Cave, Panther Cave, Bat Cave, Flying Fox Cave, Apes Cave, and Leopard Cave — each with narrow passages and chambers visitors can walk through.
The caves are carved by natural geological forces and decorated with hanging stalactites and moss-covered rock faces. Each cave is between 30 to 60 metres long and wide enough for a person to walk upright (except for a few narrow squeeze sections). The animal-themed naming is based on the cave shapes and silhouettes — children especially enjoy spotting the animal likeness in the rock formations.
Beyond the caves, the complex has a Hanging Garden with terraced flower beds on a steep hillside, a Swing Garden with rope swings and small rides for children, and a Musical Fountain show (played at fixed timings in the evening during peak season). The entire complex takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to explore comfortably.
Tip: Visit Eco Cave Gardens in the morning (before 11 AM) for fewer crowds and cooler temperature inside the caves. Wear closed shoes — the cave floors are uneven and can be wet. The garden is managed by Nainital Municipal Corporation.

The garden has 6 natural caves, each with a unique shape and animal-inspired name. Here is what to expect inside each cave:
Longest Cave · ~60 m
The largest and most popular cave. Its wide entrance narrows to a tiger-face silhouette at the far end. Ceiling height varies 1.5–3 m. Natural light filters through cracks — bring a torch for the deeper sections.
Narrow passage · ~45 m
A slightly narrower cave with a curved passage and jagged rock walls. The panther profile is visible in the rock near the exit. Good for older children and adults — young toddlers may find it difficult.
Low ceiling · ~35 m
The cave with the lowest ceiling — visitors must bend at certain points. Actual bats are sometimes spotted hanging from the roof in the evening. Cool, dark, and atmospheric — most visited for the novelty factor.
Wide opening · ~40 m
Named for its wing-like rock overhang at the entrance. This cave has the widest passage and is the easiest to walk through. Good for families with young children or elderly visitors.
Rock formations · ~38 m
Features interesting rock formations on the walls that resemble sitting apes. The cave has two small chambers inside — one with a natural skylight. A favourite for photography inside the cave.
Stalactites · ~30 m
The shortest cave but has the most visible stalactite formations on the ceiling. Natural dripping water keeps the floor slightly wet — watch your step. The leopard silhouette is visible from inside looking toward the entrance.
What else to see: After the caves, walk up to the Hanging Garden — terraced flower beds built on a steep hillside with Naini Lake views. The Swing Garden has rope swings for children. The Musical Fountain show (if operational) plays at fixed evening timings — check at the entry gate.
