About Maya Devi Temple

Maya Devi Temple is one of the most ancient and revered temples in Haridwar. It is a Shakti Peeth, believed to be the spot where the heart and navel of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Vishnu severed her body with his Sudarshana Chakra. The word "Haridwar" is said to have been derived from "Mayadevi" – Maya meaning illusion and Dwar meaning gateway.

This is one of the few ancient temples in Haridwar where the original stone structure is preserved. The temple is part of the Panch Tirtha pilgrimage of Haridwar.
